This is a clarion call to all teens – never doubt your potential and your ability to achieve anything you set your mind to and truly work for. The power of self belief – of confidence – is amazing. The critical task is to balance it with a passion for what you do, a sense of humility and a kind heart. But first, it all starts with confidence. Parents, I want you to do something this week. I want you to sit down with your children, look them square in the eye and let them know – unequivocally and without hesitation – that they have it within their power to live a life that is richly rewarding, deeply fulfilling and the realization of their dreams. Never doubt it, and never let them doubt it for a second either. Let them know it doesn’t come easy and they’ll be constantly tested throughout their life. They’ll know the ugly face of mistakes and failures, but help them know that no mistake is truly a failure unless nothing is learned from it and if they don’t continue to press on. Success is not a destination, but rather the journey and experiences that take us through life and allow us to live well. Success must also be constantly maintained. Confidence, tempered with effort, puts you in the right state of mind to realize success. Tell your teens to be confident in themselves, and know that you can be confident in yourself as well. Never doubt it!
