Entrepreneurship Vs Employment? Deciding the Path You Want to Take
Is it better to own a business or be employed? That is a question many people ask. Both have their merits and their challenges, and there are opportunities for learning, growth …
Branding, Career Development, Leadership
Nothing fosters a sense of belonging and purpose like getting involved in your community. Not only do you get to make a difference for people and organizations close to home, but you can also see the impact your actions make when you participate in supporting them in your town or city. On top of that, the power of community involvement can help you build your future in many positive ways.
Developing your hard and soft skills.
There are many ways to get involved in your community. Volunteer work, community service or sitting on a local board of directors are just a few. The great thing about choosing any one of the many ways to get involved in your community is that you get to explore your personal interests, and while you do, you also get to build your hard skills, soft skills and the transferrable skills that come with these new experiences.
When you choose to support a worthy cause, you give yourself the opportunity to learn new things, work in teams, deal with different personalities, and more, all of which will support you well, as you choose new paths to take, made through these experiences, to build your future.
Fostering connections through community involvement.
A natural byproduct that comes from getting involved in your community is the connections you will make. These connections are invaluable in many ways!
Studies show that deep connections, strong community ties and good friendships have a big impact on our wellbeing and happiness throughout our lives. Getting involved in your community is a great way to increase the number of connections you have, as well as improve the ones you’ve already built. When we serve and support others together, we get to build a powerful sense of purpose as we live out the values that mean the most to us. That creates very strong ties, now and into the future, based on common views, values and goals.
On a professional level, the power of your network in your community can take you farther and faster than you can imagine. I’ve had so many business opportunities come from the people in my network, locally and globally. Co-authoring books, real estate investments, speaking events and starting multi-million-dollar businesses are included among them.
On the other side of that, I’ve been able to offer opportunities to many people and organizations in my community, and as you build your power of association, you will be able to do that too! Your skills, talents and experiences, as well as the connections you have already built in your network, can uplift others who might need a helping hand to succeed.
It feels great to be one of the people who get to help build that kind of success for and with others!
Building your personal brand and reputation.
Community involvement also says a lot about you, your values, principles, ethics and your desire to contribute to the world around you, which is why getting involved in your community positively impacts your personal brand and reputation.
Both your personal brand and your reputation are built through your actions. Altruistic people are seen as more trustworthy because they are focused on serving and supporting the greater good, more than they are on themselves. Personally and professionally, this is a huge advantage and it can open many doors. As you take on support and/or community leadership roles, not only will you get to build your people and project management skill sets, you will also improve your professional profile, as you serve and support the people and projects that matter to you.
It is a great way to do meaningful work and develop yourself while you are building your future.
Increasing your personal satisfaction.
Helping others can change lives and that feels great! As you get involved in your community, you can raise awareness for various organizations, increase donations, support those who are struggling, and pay it forward. All these things increase your feeling of connection within your community, invigorate your sense of purpose and provide a greater feeling of fulfillment in your life, as you make a real difference in your town or city.
This kind of impact can light you up in a way that brings even more people into your world, further increasing the power of your community involvement and shaping your future with many opportunities that can be life changing.
There are so many bonuses that are gained when you serve and support others. I hope this inspires you to get involved in your community with a cause that really matters to you.
