Building personal success isn’t a one-size-fits-all process. There are many factors that each one of us need to consider before taking steps to accelerate our success and ensure we are moving in the right direction personally, financially and professionally. This is why it is so important to develop your unique personal success equation and factor in all the components you need to achieve the level of success you desire.

What is a “personal success equation”? And why most people get it wrong.

When it comes to building wealth, personal development and professional advancement, to do it successfully, we all need to ensure that we:

  • Define our personal definition of success and not follow someone else’s
  • Develop our vision and the way we want to make our difference in the world
  • Are clear about our personal values and the ethics we want to live by, so everything aligns with it
  • Have defined our risk tolerance for change and innovation, as well as investing
  • Are doing the research before making changes or investing time, money and energy

And this is where people go wrong. Too often they follow well-meaning advice, someone else’s beliefs of what they should do or be, or they pursue wealth-building tips without fully considering how these things align with their personal formula for success.

Anytime we do that, we have a far greater risk of going off course because we aren’t operating under the direction of our own values, vision, moral codes, tolerances and/or how we want to serve and support others to make a greater impact in the world.

There are many ways to become successful, make money and live the life of our dreams. Finding your way toward the things that really matter to you becomes a lot easier when you understand your Personal Success Equation.

I have used this formula in my own life to become a successful entrepreneur, bestselling author, financial literacy advocate and successful businesswoman. And it is the same equation that I’ve taught to audiences around the world because it works—even if you haven’t been successful at building wealth before.

The Personal Success Equation is designed to help you define your path to achievement, maximize your income and build the lasting wealth needed to bring your bigger vision to life.

How changing your perspective changes outcomes.

Perspective is everything when it comes to creating your success because your perspective determines:

  • What you believe is possible
  • How you respond to failure
  • Whether you quit or adapt to the situation
  • How you build your strategy to move forward

Your perspective and your mindset are intertwined.

This is why changing your perspective changes your mindset and what you believe you can do. That in turn shifts the outcomes you get in your life, moving you toward the future you want.

Your Personal Success Equation is a great way to get a new perspective about what success really means to you and what you can do to achieve it in a way that aligns with the things that matter most to you, which gives you far greater clarity for your new path forward.

Why you might need a mentor to help accelerate your personal success.

None of us has all the answers we need to get past challenges or acquire new skills. It is why learning from others and seeking mentorship can accelerate your progress toward your goals, especially when that person has already done that thing you want to do.

Finding a mentor is especially important if you:

  • Feel like you’re stuck
  • Are putting in a lot of effort but not getting the results you want
  • Find yourself constantly overthinking or ruminating on problems
  • Are second-guessing your decisions
  • Are feeling overwhelmed
  • Genuinely have no idea what you need to do to move forward

A mentor can give you guidance from a place of been-there-done-that based on the things they’ve already seen, learned, faced and overcome.

Because you get the kind of wisdom that comes from their lived experience, mentorship helps you:

  • See the blind spots that you can’t perceive on your own
  • Avoid common mistakes
  • Get around the obstacles you currently face
  • Think bigger and clearer
  • Build a better success strategy

While a great mentor won’t tell you what to do because only you can decide what’s right for you, they will help you expand your thinking and give you tools, insights and new perspectives to make decisions that you know will work for you.

By doing that, not only will you have a better success strategy, but you will also be able to articulate it clearly to yourself and others, which makes the path toward the success you desire even easier to navigate.

In summary, the steps for accelerating your personal success are:

  1. Recognizing that you want something different than you have right now.
  2. Defining your personal success equation to get your unique formula for creating greater success.
  3. Working with a mentor because they will help you go farther faster through their knowledge base and lived experience, giving you new (and proven) perspectives that will quickly move you toward your goals.

With these three things, you can shift your mindset and build a success strategy that works for you and the bigger vision you want for your life.
