Financial literacy is so important, which is why I have committed my life and work to it. Education goes hand-in-hand with becoming financially literate and, from time-to-time, I like to highlight groups or states that are doing their part in educating the public about finances. There is a free series of financial literacy sessions given by a credit union in Minnesota named TopLine that just won the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award for their “Get Smart With Your Money™” series. This series offers three classes for three different age groups of kids, starting with ages 5-8, 9-13 and 14-18. The sessions cover learning the difference between wants and needs, budgets, financial goals, the importance of building and using credit wisely and investing.
